Do you know the meaning of the Saint Benedict medal? It dates from a very ancient time, and he recommended it to his disciples to protect them against evil and temptations through faith. Employed today especially by exorcist priests.
The Saint Benedict medal is a Christian sacramental protection medal, which originated from the devotion that Saint Benedict professed to the Cross. It is not an amulet against evil but a sacramental recognized by the Catholic Church against evil. Even before the 17th century it was used in acts to ward off evil spirits and for acts of exorcism. The Saint Benedict medal is credited with the power to ward off temptations and evil spirits. It is also used to divert fears, even at the time of death. Of course, it must be carried with faith.
What do the symbols on the medal mean? On the front face of the medal we can find the image of Saint Benedict, holding the cross in his right hand and the book of Rules in his left hand. Around it we find this inscription: "Eius in obitu nostro presentia muniámur" which means: that at the hour of our death your presence protects us. If we look at the bottom, on one side we find the figure of a raven carrying a loaf of bread in its beak, a sign of the poisoned food that was given to it. On the other side, we see a cup alluding to the other poisoning that they wanted to do to him, but when making the blessing on it, a snake came out. In the background of the image, there is another inscription "Crux sancti patris Benedicti": Cross of the Holy Father Benedict.
On the reverse of the medal, we find the Cross and on it the following inscriptions: on the upper part: Pax: peace. On the vertical stick of the cross: C.S.S.M.L "Crux Sácra Sit Mihi Lux" which means that the Holy Cross be my light. On the horizontal stick: N.D.S.M.D «Nón Draco Sit Mihi Dux« translate that the devil is not my guide. The letters C.S.P.B that can be read on each side of the cross refer to the Cross of the Holy Father Benedict.
In the circle, on the edge of the medal and following the hands of the clock, the following is translated: V.R.S. "Vade Retro Satana": Back off Satan. N.S.M.V «Non Suáde Mihi Vána»: I am not satisfied with vain things. S.M.Q.L «Sunt Mála Quae Libas»: What you offer me is bad. I.V.B «Ípse Venena Bíbas»: Drink your poison yourself.
